  • Notes  Died:
    • George was the oldest child of John Henry Fewtrell and his wife Alice, nee Kendall. The family moved to Canada from England around 1920 (his sister Margaret was born there in 1920) but it is possible that the family moved back to England. In 1925 they lived in Coburg, Ontario, and the youngest sister, Rosemary was born there in 1925.
The family moved to British Columbia were they settled down in the Okanagan (around Penticton). There he met Sheila Blackwood, and their first child Margaret Rose was born in 1940, but died just 1 day old.
At that time he worked for the BC forest service, but just after the 2nd WW broke out, he joined the RCAF. He became an officer, and educated as an Wireless Radio operator.
In 1943 he was sent to England and worked in bombers like Lancaster and Halifax. He had 23 sorties over Europe. On July 31st the plane was shot down just outside Lubeck, Germany. George and the pilot managed to bail out. He was badly injured, and after a couple of months in hospital, he was sent to prison camp. He was liberated at Mooseburg in May 45.
Back in Canada he joined the BC Provincial Police. In 1949 BC Police became a part of the RCMP. He served in Salmon Arm and Keremeos. There he was in charge of the detachment. After a brain stroke he was transferred to Victoria. He never regained his strength, and retired with a sick pension only 48 years old. He died at 53 in 1968.
He was survived by his wife Sheila (died in 1969) and his daughters Margaret and Susan.
